   History of the Mariinsky Theatre begins in 1783. It opened in October 2, 1860 with Glinka's opera "A Life for the Tsar." The theater is named after the wife of Alexander II Maria Alexandrovna. Her bust is stayed in the lobby of the theater. It became the preeminent music theatre of 19th century in Russia. The masterpieces of great russian composes Tchaikovsky , Mussorgsky , Glinka and Rimsky-Korsakov started from here with "The Sleeping Beauty" by Marius Petipa, "The Nutcracker", "Swan Lake", "Romeo and Juliet", "Cinderella", the opera "Boris Godunov", "Queen of Spades", "Iolanta", "The Golden Cockerel", "Eugene Onegin". Throughout the history of the theater it's name changes: Imperial Mariinsky Theatre, the State Opera and Ballet Theatre, Leningrad State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the Kirov State Academic Mariinsky Theatre. The role of Mariinsky Theatre is very important in Russian and world culture. The Mariinsky Theatre receaved a new stage in 2013 .
